Dr. Cooney is a native of Troy and a graduate of Lansingburgh High School. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Siena College and his dental degree from Georgetown University School of Dentistry in Washington, D.C. He did his internship in general dentistry at The New York Hospital – Cornell University Medical Center in New York City, where he also completed a one-year clinical fellowship in surgical correction of facial deformities. He received his certificate of specialty training in orthodontics from Georgetown University School of Dentistry and his Master of Science degree in orthodontics from Georgetown University Graduate School.
Dr. Cooney has been in private practice as an orthodontic specialist in Troy, New York since 1988. He is board-certified by the American Board of Orthodontics. He is also the attending orthodontist at the New York Presbyterian Hospital and Assistant Professor of Surgery at Cornell Medical College, both in New York City. He is also a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, American Dental Association and the American College of Dentists. Dr. Cooney is now the only VIP Platinum Plus Invisalign Orthodontist in New York’s Capital Region, meaning he has completed the most cases to date in the area.
Dr. Cooney has lectured on topics relating to orthodontics and correction of facial deformities to diverse groups throughout the region, including the dental hygiene program at Hudson Valley Community College and the Fourth District Dental Society. He has published numerous articles in a variety of professional journals and newsletters.
Dr. Cooney has been a member of the executive board of the New York State Society of Orthodontists since 1990. He has held numerous positions in professional societies on local, regional and national levels. He has served on the boards of charitable and non-profit organizations in the community, including the Board of Associate Trustees of Siena College and the Rensselaer County Historical Society.
Dr. Canaan B. Tyner was born in Glens Falls, NY and graduated from Saratoga Central Catholic High School. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine at Pepperdine University and his dental degree at the University of Buffalo, School of Dental Medicine. He then continued his education at Montefiore Medical Center where he received his certificate of specialty training from the Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics.
In addition to traditional orthodontics, his education included extensive training in clear aligner therapy, adult orthodontic treatment, and orthodontics in combination with orthognathic surgery. During residency, Dr. Tyner also conducted research analyzing the accuracy and effectiveness of digital scanning and digital model analysis. He is excited to use this knowledge and to continue to explore the latest in technology in order to offer our patients the most comfortable and efficient orthodontic treatment
Dr. Tyner is also an active member of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), the American Dental Association (ADA), and Omicron Kappa Upsilon (National Dental Honor Society).
Dr. Tyner and his wife, Dr. Christina O’Brien, a general dentist, are excited about their return to the Capital District where they both grew up. Dr. Tyner is thrilled to be able to serve the community that has given him so much.
Amber joined the team in November, 2020. She was born and raised in Hudson Falls, NY. Amber is a graduate of Hudson Falls High School and Hudson Valley Community College with a degree in Dental Hygiene. In her free time Amber enjoys line dancing, horseback riding, attending country concerts and spending as much time as possible with her three dogs, friends and family.
Ansley joined the team in February 2012. She was born and raised in Brunswick and is currently a resident of Schenectady. Ansley is a graduate of Tamarac High School and Hudson Valley Community College. In her free time, Ansley enjoys hiking, working out, and spending time with her family and friends.
Diane joined the team in August 2005. She was born and raised in Averill Park and is currently a resident of East Poestenkill. Diane is a graduate of Averill Park High School and Hudson Valley Community College with a degree in Executive Secretarial Science. In her free time, Diane enjoys spending time with her ever-growing family.
Donna joined the team in April 2003. She is currently a resident of Lansingburgh, born and raised in Albany, NY. Donna is a graduate of Albany High School. In her free time she enjoys cooking for her family.
Erin joined the team in September 1987. She was born and raised in Troy and currently resides in Latham. Erin is a graduate of Lansingburgh High School, Russell Sage with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics & Management, and Hudson Valley Community College with a degree in Dental Hygiene. Erin enjoys raising her family and playing tennis.
Jennifer joined the team in November 1998. She is currently a resident of Brunswick and was raised in Watervliet. Jennifer is a graduate of Watervliet High School and Hudson Valley Community College with a degree in Medical Office Assisting. Jen enjoys travelling and spending time with her family.
Jennifer joined the team in April 2015. She was born and raised in the Catskills and is currently a resident of Guilderland, NY. Jen is a graduate of Cairo-Durham High School. In 2017, Jennifer graduated from Hudson Valley Community College’s Dental Assisting Program. She then completed her NYS board exams earning her the title of Certified Dental Assistant. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her daughter and her yellow lab, Gracie.
Jennifer joined the team in July 2016. She is currently a resident of Buskirk, NY. Jennifer is a graduate of Hoosick Falls Central and achieved her degree in Dental Hygiene for Hudson Valley Community College. In her free time, Jen enjoys hiking, running, and working on her Farm with her husband – which is home to Llamas, Chickens, and Honeybees.
Jocelyn joined the team in September 2020. She grew up in Delmar, NY. Jocelyn is a graduate of Bethlehem Central High School and Hudson Valley Community College with a degree in Dental Hygiene. In her free time, Jocelyn enjoys playing tennis and spending time with her family and dogs, Loki and Allie.
Katie joined the team in May 2018. She was born and raised in Bolton Landing. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY Cortland and graduated from Hudson Valley Community College with a degree in Dental Hygiene. She enjoys traveling and spending quality time with her husband, son, and newborn baby girl.
Katie joined the team in May 2019. She was born and raised in Latham, NY. Katie is a graduate of Shaker High School. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from the Sage College of Albany and graduated from Hudson Valley Community College with a degree in Dental Hygiene. In her free time, Katie enjoys spending time with family and friends and singing along to the radio.
Shelby joined the team in May 2013. She was born and raised in Melrose, NY. Shelby is a graduate of Hoosic Valley High School and Hudson Valley Community College with a degree in Dental Hygiene. She graduated from SUNY Empire State with a Bachelors in Health Sciences. She is also a graduate of the University of Bridgeport with a Masters Degree in Dental Hygiene. In her free time Shelby enjoys playing soccer and volunteering full time as the Events Coordinator for the Capital Region Toys for Tots.
